CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

Christmas lights
  TRADITIONS ON THE NEW MILENIUM

You wonder what's new on Christmas lighting. The news is that every year new ideas come alive and the traditional Christmas bulb now has a large family with a lot of cousins and siblings.

First the traditional lights strand made up of regular 25 watt white bulbs soon was replaced by color bulbs. Then a time later smaller lights were used for places where those large bulbs were too much.
Today in the present day there are a few dozen type of Christmas lights which can be used for a wide variety of arrangements ranging from lighting a regular Christmas tree, or resembling a waterfall.

Among the newer generation of lights LED lights which were always used as monitor lights for phones, audio equipment and other electronics are gaining a large ground on the Christmas market and as technology keeps advancing new type of lights, shapes and colors are added.

LED lights use a semiconductor chip to generate light. They usually require much less energy to generate light than a regular or old fashion bulb. This has many advantages. First of all they don't generate much heat and that accounts for less energy consumption and a safer environment with less possibilities of a fire. Additionally as LED lights being smaller than traditional Christmas bulbs they can safely be integrated into toys and ornaments. If you are conscious about the environment and also want to save some money, LED lights is the way to go because you are going to save a bunch of money.
Another advantage is that LED lights are offered in a variety of sizes and colors that range from the traditional red, green and blue to some shades of orange, purple, etc. LEDs don't burn out as fast as regular bulbs. A LED life expectancy is about 40 years or longer. This means you don't have to buy lights every year and the ones you have don't loose coloration because the color they yield is not a byproduct of the plastic or glass of the casing but a property of the semiconductor itself.

LED lights are not cheap to buy. In fact they are unreasonably expensive. It is true that they save you money but at this age they should be as inexpensive as grains of sand. You should shop around, perhaps take previous year light bill and do the math before considering on investing on ten boxes of new LED lights.

I think a good choice is to use both LED and traditional bulb lights. Some arrangements will accommodate the one type and other will take advantage of the crispiness of regular bulb lights. You should experiment to get the look you want.

A word of caution is necessary at this point. Do not think that by replacing all your old lights with new generation bulbs or even the electronic counterparts you are going to be safe from accidents or a fire. Caution and good planing still have to be exercised.

Watch close all wiring before installing it. Look for dents or any signal of danger. Discard it immediately if you are in doubt. Spending an additional $10 in a new strand is always cheaper than a hospital bill or worse.
Once the lights are installed monitor them regularly. Sense for heat, broken bulbs, punctured wires and objects that may have come in contact, and above all make sure all wiring is away from the reach of youngsters. You know kids tend to chew things. You don't want them to chew wires. Wires carry electrons and some are fatal.
